Maximilian Girod-Laine practices in the fields of international organization and civil service law, international criminal law and the law of indigenous peoples.

He represents international staff of the United Nations and other international organizations before international administrative tribunals, including the International Labour Organization Administrative Tribunal (ILOAT), the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT), the United Nations Appeals Tribunal and the OIF Court of First Instance.

Mr. Girod-Laine also assists with the internal appeals procedures of international organizations (joint appeals boards and disciplinary commissions). 

Mr. Girod-Laine holds a Magister Artium (DEA) from the Free University of Berlin (Freie Universität Berlin) and a PhD in Law from the University of Nanterre (Paris). His thesis under supervision of Prof. Alain Pellet focused on the origins and evolution of international administrative jurisdictions.

He was admitted to the Paris Bar in 2020.

Notable international criminal law cases:

▪ Ukraine/Russia conflict (assisting the Ukrainian Presidency and the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office in the creation of a digital platform for the collection of evidence of violations of international humanitarian law).

▪ Member of the defense team for victims of crimes perpetrated by Daech/ISIS in Syria in a dispute involving an international company.

▪ Halabja (Kurdish genocides in Iraq).


Assistance indigenous peoples (pro bono):

▪ Assistance in the establishment of an institute for the defense and promotion of indigenous peoples’ rights in Brazil’s Xingu region.

▪ Setting up international partnerships for humanitarian aid and development assistance.
